Summer Vacation 2015: Batesville Indiana

The first part of our summer vacation extravaganza was down in Batesville, Indiana to visit Phil's parents and sister.  We had a great time spending time with the family watching old slides and Pete had a blast playing down in their pond.  It has almost been a year since we were down there last due to scheduling and Pete has been begging to go visit. It was a great start to vacation.
Checking out Nora in the mirror, though she ended up mad because I wouldn't pick her up

Minivan Club!

We've been toying with the idea of getting a van.  It would make life so much easier and our cars are now 16 years old.  We decided eventually they will die and we can either replace them when that happens or on our own terms.  We found this gem thanks to Dad and the bulletin board at work!
The whole family

Our 2006 Town and Country.  I'm not sad about joining the minivan club at all.

Pete was too excited for the picture and had climbed in the van to check it out already

Nora's Birthday Party

We had Nora's first birthday party last weekend.  Everyone came up since Nora and Ally were sharing the party.  I made Nora's smash cake and a pretty cake for Ally.  We picked up cupcakes for it too from Meijer which normally does an amazing job, but definitely did not this time which they are remedying for us, so I'm content.

Nora has really discovered the joys of dress up lately.  Her favorite it sunglasses but this crown that Josey found for her in the toys was running a close second for the party.  Ally taught her the joys of necklaces and accessorizing properly. I may have a girly girly on my hands after all!

Her shirt says, "Life of the Party"I found it fitting for her glasses and crown
Smash Cake! Nora took it just like the name implies, it took her a couple minutes to realize that she could eat it too and daddy shared some homemade ice cream with her too, and she shared her cake as well. Lucky Daddy!
What is that?!

getting a feel for it

Full on smash and eating

All Done!

Nora made out like a bandit in the present area and has been loving all of them this week.  Everyone knew just what she likes!

Anniversary Trip

We've been married for 7 years now!  I can't believe it has been that long, I graduated 8 years ago from high school have an almost 5 year old, 1 year old and have been done with college for 4 years.  No freaking way!  Why couldn't time have gone so fast when I was in high school instead of flying through it now.  Cruel.

Phil surprised me this year with a trip down to Ball State in Muncie where we met. We went to all our old haunts.  We stopped by where we first kissed, got Jamba Juice, ate Chick-fil-a (not there when we were there), wandered the library and just had fun together without the kiddos.  It was my longest time away from Nora!  We also bought a really big present for ourselves for our anniversary but it gets its very own post!

Nora's First Birthday!

This year has come and gone so quickly.  Nora is an entire year old and is acting like it completely.  She's such a joy and I'm pretty sure I can write for all of us but she makes us all have a smile on her face and our family so much better.  Pete loves his baby sister, even if she likes to occasionally chew on Optimus Prime's head.

Last night at bed time
Nora's birthday stats:
6 teeth
loves all food but green beans and apricots
favorite toy is her phone and remote control
speed demon at crawling
Walks around furniture, refuses to walk holding fingers (total meltdown when attempted)
I'd share her weight and height but her appointment isn't for a couple weeks, but I will then.

10 Things I love about Nora:

1.  I love the way your nose crinkles when you get caught getting into something...sheer orneriness.
2.  Daddy and Nora piano playing time.  What isn't too love?
3.  Your giggle is so sweet and full of happiness it is impossible to be grumpy about it.
4.  I love how you give kisses both when asked and randomly.
5.  Hugs.Nora gives the very best hugs that make you feel like the most loved person in the world.
6.  I love how you like to cuddle up and fall asleep on my chest at bed time after nursing.
7.  Your complete admiration for Pete.  You always give him a good giggle.
8.  I'm not sure if I should love this but, your jealousy for Dex or Pete if they are being held or getting attention from me or grandma.  It is hilarious and I have to stifle a chuckle every time.
9.  Those beautiful brown eyes and hair.  So different from Pete but so adorable!
10.  I love your appetite.  I don't have to worry about you not eating, I'm typically more concerned with having food left in the pantry.

Family History

Our church is big into family history, well maybe big is an understatement, just a bit.  Anyway I'm not really into it too much.  Though I do like adding pictures into the family history website for my family.  Luckily my mom has loads of pictures and I have the technology to easily add the picture to their information so those doing research and connecting the families can actually see that these people had real lives.  I can handle that, looking up people to add into the family tree, not so much.  So here are some of the gems that I uploaded the other day.
see below
This is my great-grandfather

This is also Percival with the Cello.  He paid his way through college playing, only to loose a couple fingers in an accident afterwards never to play again.

This is Gottlieb David Hueber, he's my great great grandfather and was born in 1871!

This is Percival and Nora's namesake Eleanor with their daughter Joan my great aunt.

This is Eleanor's teaching license.

Here's grandma and grandpa Horn with my dad when he was a baby.  I totally see Ben and Brig in this picture.
