Yardwork

trimming around his sandbox
We have really been doing tons of yard work lately.  Trimming trees, killing ants, spraying weeds, mowing the lawn, mulching, tilling the garden plot, tending the blueberry bushes and pear trees.  Lots and lots of new chores to do for us!  Really even when we lived in a house that we were responsible for the yard work and landscaping it wasn't this bad, but that is what happens when a house is left empty for years before it can be put up for sale!  Though we do love our house!  Today we are getting a new sliding door put up and I'm so excited to have a functioning one!  Pete has also been getting into the spirit.  He's still in love with his bubble mower, that doesn't blow bubbles.  He is also trying to let me allow him up to work on the gutter that is leaking next to his sandbox.  He hates the drip and spent quite awhile this morning trying to figure it out before we went to run errands and go to playgroup.  Much to his dismay though I'm not letting him up on the roof to fix it yet, but maybe we'll discuss the problem with Daddy and Grandpa and see if someone can fix it for him.  Now if only this excitement and love of work keeps with him for the next 16 years I'll be thrilled!

Dancing with the Staff

The hip hop dance club at the high school hosts an annual fundraising event pairing the students with a staff member to perform a dance.  Phil was asked by one of his students to join him during the event this year.  Phil of course said yes.  The first 30 seconds are the dance followed by the judges comments.

They ended up winning audience favorite and event got awards for it!  Great job Phil!

Garage Sale Season

The last couple of weeks I've been hitting the garage sales on Fridays.  I prefer Friday because it isn't nearly as busy.  I'm not a huge fan of the crowds so I try to avoid them if I can, especially when it involves cars and bad drivers.  I've gotten some great finds.  Pete got a couple of new toys that I knew he would like for a crazy good deal.  Mostly barnyard themed toys and a few games now that he is getting old enough to play with us.  He now has a magnetic barnyard matching game on the fridge, he absolutely loves it!  The only bad thing though is that the back half of the cow is gone so he gets annoyed with that so he makes hybrid animals instead.  Which really are so much more interesting anyway!  I picked up a new lawn chair today, it is one of my favorite kinds the canvas one with the footrest attached.  Love them!  Today I found one of the toys from my childhood that I never had, so I knew I had to pick it up for Pete.

Do you remember these things?  I always thought they were cool, so for a buck I couldn't pass it up.  Do you know how hard it is to find boy toddler clothes at garage sales?  Well it is pretty much impossible!  Little baby clothes are everywhere as are sizes 6 and up in boys but anything from 3-5T in boys do not exist!

Do any clothes survive these years?  Should I consider it a bad omen for my future?

Easily Amused.

One of Pete's favorite places to go is Menards.  It is a home improvement store-kind of like Lowe's or Home Depot, just normally cheaper and only a regional chain.  Phil took Pete there the other day while looking for some house stuff, Pete found the guy riding the floor cleaner and followed it for a couple of laps around the store.

While Mom is Away the Boys Will...

Apparently the answer is eat ice cream!

Evidence that all the fun happens while Mom is away doing something else.  On Thursday I had a Relief Society meeting and was presenting on coupons and how I generally go on the cheap for groceries.  Phil had Pete for the night.  They went to Cluver's to get ice cream and then headed over to look at the mowers at Menards afterwards.  The joy of a boy, show him a big machine and he is thrilled!

Mowing

We have been loving the weather.  Pete has gotten to play outside for the entire last week.  Our poor basement has been feeling a bit neglected even.  At home he gets to play with a push mower that is his size.  It is supposed to be a bubble mower but doesn't work, I didn't really expect it to, since I picked it up on my run the other morning out of the recycling bin and brought it home with me.  I already look bad enough while running and then doing it with a children's mower too?  I looked like a complete idiot!  Pete loves the thing though.  He has also gotten lots of rides on Popo's riding lawn mower at his house.  There are always sticks to be picked up and stuck on the burn pile.  Grandma even gets to give him a ride occasionally.
Sorry it has been so long since I updated the blog.  Between busy life and blogger having issues uploading pictures the easy way it just hasn't happened this week.
