Pete Delves into Sculpture

So maybe I made it sound a bit more sophisticated than it really is, but scissors have been Pete's favorite thing lately.  For awhile it was watercolors, and now he has embraced cutting cardboard.  He uses the wimpy little kid, blunt ended things, but man he can go to town on that box! I've tried to get him to try out paper but he doesn't want anything to do with it. Though he has to take a break occasionally because his hand gets a bit sore from cardboard, not really a surprise here.  I posted a picture the other day of his car creation with Phil, this is one he is going solo on, so I thought it only appropriate to share with the world.

Fine but just this one picture!

Dex

I haven't said much about Dex lately.  He is doing great, part of me is still amazed we ended up with such a wonderful dog. He is loving the lack of snow in the yard and is actually staying outside longer than what it actually takes to do his business during the day.  Pete and Dex are still getting along wonderfully, Pete chases Dex sometimes, but then Dex barks at Pete when he doesn't listen to me! Geez, I'm the mom, not you!  We recently put a new chair in Pete's room and Dex decided he really likes it, too.  During our nightly reading he jumps up in it with both Phil and Pete and snuggles down.  Recently one of Pete's choices for books has been Hallo-wieners, a Halloween book about a dachshund.

Sunday my parents came out for dinner to check out Pete's new room and Dex loves snuggling with grandma. Mom was lamenting the fact that the only grandbaby with brown eyes is Dex. She then jokingly continued to say that he also has not her eyes, but nose, ears and body type (long and thick!).  We thought it was pretty funny, it at least makes him feel like part of the family right? Not as much adopted?

Pete's New Room

With Nora coming in a couple of months we needed to get Pete out of the crib-turned-toddler-bed and into a twin bed.  I wanted to get it done early because life was only going to get crazier with the end of the school year coming up.  I would have liked to have made Pete a new quilt that was big enough, but I didn't really have the time, so in a couple of years I probably will. I couldn't find any farm bedding that was actually affordable but I did find some awesome Tonka Trunk bedding!  Initially he was not excited about getting a new bed, but once he saw it he loved it!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I just love the random holiday ties for the boys!  To think next year I'll get to add hairbows into the mix!

Fickle Weather

The weather was rather fickle this last week. A couple days we had warm weather and almost had all of the snow melted off of our yard. Exciting!  We were able to go on a couple of walks on the greenway, with my parents while Phil was out of town for work.

Well then we got about 8.5 inches of fresh snow and one day and ended up with a snow day for Phil!  Also exciting. We don't complain when Phil gets to stay home from work! Pete has been wanting to "build" lots of things lately out of cardboard boxes.  This time Pete and Phil built a race car, though Pete didn't quite understand at first why it wouldn't drive like a real car...

The view out of my window the next morning.
Pete's race car he built with daddy!
It stuck around for a little bit, but not much because the next few days it was between 40 and 50 degrees again! Hopefully we will see lots more of the warm weather and will be done with snow this year, at least I wouldn't complain.
