This Place is going to the Dog...National Dog Day

Happy National Dog Day!  Did you know it existed?  I didn't but hey why not have a reason to give Dex an extra homemade cookie today?! Yes, I bake for our dog, much cheaper than buying the nice treats, but I still buy the good 'ole milkbones and rawhide. Well we have had Dex for just over a month now.  We're loving him and he loves us.  Though sometimes Pete chases him a bit too much, and sometimes we rough house with Pete a bit too much and freak Dex out with it.  Every night we go to Pete's room and read the scriptures and pray and do the general bed time routine.  Well Dex has to be in there for that and snuggles up with us and gets jealous when we are kissing goodnights and wants in on it too.  Pete frequently asks for Dex to put him to bed, but we don't allow that to happen, I don't think Dex would enforce the rules well enough.

How about the recipe to the most recent dog treat creations in celebration of National Dog Day?

Dex's Peanut Butter Apple Cookies

1cup PB
3 cups whole wheat flour/white flour
1/4-1/2 cup flaxseed meal
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 TBS oil
1/2 cup diced apple
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Mix it together. Flour surface thoroughly and roll out.  Cut into squares or with cookie cutters and back at 350 for 20 minutes of until golden brown.  Store in the fridge or freezer.  If you freeze them, make sure to thaw before giving them to the dog!

My dad was actually really tempted to eat one the other day and you probably could and it wouldn't taste too bad.
